I love having a friend to share my Harry Potter addiction with. We would talk about the books and go see the movies. Also, I love the way Carrie will bantered back and forth with me. I would pick on her and she would give it right back to me. Carrie would never back down or let me get the last word. I always crack up about how our recent lives have mirrored each other. Marcia and I felt like we had twins living in Auburn, be it the black trucks with lab stickers, the boxer and lab dogs, the same Faith, Hope, and Love signs for the wall. It seemed like we were always copying each other one way or another. My favorite thing to pick on Carrie about is the way she is with books. It drives her insane that I dog ear pages, break the spine, wrinkle the pages, etc. I still say she is a little Obsessive Compulsive when it comes to books. Above everything I have enjoyed spending time with such a loving couple. On work trips, tailgating, eating at our house, it is so nice to be with a couple who share the same love and respect for each other that I have found with my wife.
Carrie is the sweetest person I know :) I love sitting and talking with her. I had the privilege of taking her a few places and we would spend the entire trip talking :) I love to talk about different books with her. One of my favorite times was when she was flying home from Texas one night and Daniel and I had been in contact with Jason about riding with him to pick her up. However, her flight times were changed like 3 or 4 times so I had told her since it would be so late that we would not get to come. I wanted to go see her and Daniel wanted to keep Jason company, so even though it was so late we still road with him to pick her up, but did not tell her :) She was surprised and excited that we went with Jason (who she was even more glad to see :)) to pick her up! I am so glad that we started going to Lakeview and met Jason and Carrie! We love you both so much!
One of my favorite memories with Carrie is one time when Jonathan and I hung out with Carrie and Jason and we decided to play team scrabble (Girls vs. Boys). We annihilated the boys =) I forget how many points we scored on our first turn but it had to be well over 70! We ended up beating boys by a ton of points and the entire game we playfully joked on the boys. We later had a rematch because the boys teased that we just got lucky the first game and that if we played them again they would cream us. It ended in the boys losing pretty badly again- and we made sure not to let the boys forget it! Carrie is great at scrabble, and is an even better teammate and friend. We are so thankful for the time in Auburn that we got spend with Carrie and Jason. And loved being neighbors! We love you both!
Well it's definitely hard to think of just one. I loved how we would talk endlessly about anything and everything no matter how silly some topics were. Her smile and laugh would just light up the room. There is one night in particular that I remember her smile so much. The Chavers came to our house for dinner and we were talking (imagine that...we were talking) about movies. Josh and Carrie would talk hours about Harry Potter (I think) but then we started talking about other movies. This lead Josh, Jason, and Carrie to a movie quoting competition. They were trying to come up with movie quotes and stump each other. Let's just say I had no clue what they were talking bout since I'm not much of a movie buff but it was funny listening to them. The Chavers are always such a joy to be around. We love you guys!!
I remember sitting in Physics AP with Carrie and rolling our eyes at the ridiculousness. I remember church mission trips and youth group things in general. I remember laughing so hard our stomachs hurt many times. She was so joyful and wonderful and loving.
Where to begin... there are so many great Carrie stories to tell. I remember lunch everyday at Foy Union for an entire semester, playing Wii bowling with Carrie and Jason, so many birthdays celebrated together, and many many more memories. My favorite story however would have to be my 21st birthday... this was the first time Carrie brought Jason to meet her friends. Before Carrie and Jason met up with us Carrie was so nervous, she had called each one of us several times and told us to be nice, like we were gonna harrass poor Jason... lol. Needless to say it was a great birthday, and Jason survived and stuck around to marry our sweet Carrie!I remember it like it was yesterday, it was the day that this brave man joined our crazy circle of friends, and I remember carrie being the happiest I had ever seen her! So, Jason, thanks for joining our little family of friends and for making carrie the happiest girl in the world!
My favorite carrie story was the night chris first took me home to meet his parents and carrie. We were all gathered in his moms game room laughing and telling stories and picking on each other. Right as tami and mike began to pick at me carrie asked if I was sure I wanted to be a part of their family and then asked her parents to not be mean to me. It was then when I gave a quick comeback to what their parents said and carrie said well never mind I guess you fit right in.
Last night I reminded carrie of that time and asked her if she was glad I was still here with her brother and she said yes and that I am stuck with her now. She also told me how glad she is that I am part of the crazy family.
For all of you who know her, know that stuck is never what you are when your in her presensce. Blessed but never stuck.
Carrie is so amazing and I'm so thankful that I am not only a part of her brothers life but also a part of hers.
I don't even know where to begin...here are some of the moments that I've been thinking of:
Working with Carrie at Walgreens (correction - she was working and I was goofing off) in high school.
Driving in the school homecoming parade in Carrie's mustang convertible that we decorated.
Going off to UTC together - both afraid and beyond excited. Being "hypnotized" at Freshmen Orientation - and later admitting that neither of us was really under the spell :)
Driving down to Auburn Friday nights and back to Nashville Sunday afternoons - Carrie doing all the driving because she was scared to death to let me drive!
Our Spring Break trip to Florida - leaving at 4am in the morning because we were too excited to wait. We got tans and our first tattoos :)
BELIZE! Playing cards, exploring, scuba diving, complaining about the nasty-smelling water, and eating some adventurous food.
Watching my friend walk down the aisle and marry the man of her dreams. I was thrilled to see her commit herself to a man that was so special and so perfect for her.
Introducing her to her goddaughter, Dylan, who smiles and asks about her "Aunt Carrie" all the time.
There are thousands more memories that make me smile, laugh, cry, and shake my head. I am so beyond grateful that I've had Care in my life and she has changed me forever. I LOVE YOU!
I got to know Carrie mostly during sophomore year of high school. I had recently changed high schools and didn't know people very well at the time. It seems like we had almost every class together which was so much fun! I remember daily playing ridiculous MASH games (yes, as sophomores)in math class. I changed high schools again after sophomore year, and we didn't keep in close contact, but her friendship has still always been very meaningful to me. She is so much fun to be silly with & to laugh with!
When Carrie worked at Walgreens I was getting a coke out of the freezer door section and she poked her head out between the shelves and said BOO! from behind all the drinks. She was stocking the drinks from inside the cooler and scared me to death!
Also, I remember her telling us at game night one time about how close Jason brought her to the Lord. She said how their relationship was when being a Christian took a new meaning to her and that he helped her understand the Bible and encouraged and taught her. A cord of 3 strands like that is never broken. Love you sweet girl!
I will only talk about 3 of many memorable times with Carrie. The first is the day that I married her. Seeing her walking down the aisle took my breath away. I was wondering what this beautiful young lady saw in me just a guy from south Alabama. I still to this day think that it was the big truck.
The second is actually the day that I met her. I met her at the pool at her apartment and me being the really cool, slick guy that I am, never took off my sunglasses. Carrie thought that I was always looking at something else but I was actually using the glasses so that I could look at this really hott girl that I just met. Little that I knew that this gorgeous girl was even more beautiful on the inside and I have cherished every day since then. And just FYI, the date that I met Carrie was April 9, 2006. It was a Sunday.
And finally the last one that I will talk about was the day that we found out that the cancer had come back and we were leaving to go on a cruise. We left Birmingham and drove to Columbia and into a snow storm. We were less than a mile for her parents house when Carrie hit a patch of ice and slid off into a ditch. In trying to get the car out of the ditch, I told Carrie to give it some gas and I was pushing from the side in hopes that I could get the car far enough in the road for the tires to catch. But I lost my footing and slipped down next to the car. This freaked Carrie out even though I was not hurt at all. She asked if she had run over me, and I of course responded with "not too bad". This didn't set too well with her and I got a nice scolding about it. And then to top it off we ended up driving 17 hours from her parents house to Miami to catch the cruise. It made it in time and had a fun trip.
When thinking back about memories of Carrie, the first thing that comes to mind was taking Carrie and Jason a meal right after her first surgery. I had never met them, so she kept asking me about myself and how I was doing when she was the one that just had surgery! That is how she has been the whole time. Always taking the time to care about other even with all that she had going on. I also think about the time when Carrie and Jason moved into their new house :) We had so much fun sharing in that exciting experience with them. That is when I first realized Carrie's love for movies and books! I had never seen so many DVDs! Jeremy and I have been so blessed to become friends with Jason and Carrie. We have learned so much from them, and we will continue to pray daily. Love you both!
I think spending the entire day sitting by the pool in Vegas last summer with Carrie has got to be my favorite. We met at the pool before 10 am and our sweet husbands were very surprised to find us there at the end of the day after their conference. We spent the entire day talking, laughing, and reading. It does not surprise me one bit that Carrie and I could lay out by the pool for 8 or 9 hours and never run out of things to talk about. :-)
I have to say that out of the many many memories with Carrie there is one that has stuck with me and kept me smiling for all these years afterwards. We had just moved into a new apartment in Auburn, her room was downstairs and mine was upstairs. I was in my room when I heard Care scream my name...."BLAIR"!!!! I ran downstairs and that is when I saw it!!! We both we now screaming and I ran just outside the door trying to coax Carrie to just run past it and to safety with me.....it was a cockroach....a flying one! We were both terrified of them and this one was huge!! And this silly bug was blocking Carrie from the door to get outside! She was still stuck inside and both of us still screaming when finally a neighbor came to see if we were being held at gunpoint! When he found out the true nature of our screams he killed the roach for us and this is how we eventually became friends with our neighbor....and he never let us forget it :-). This is one of many.....but it will always be a favorite of mine....I love you Carebear!
My favorite story is actually a memory. It was October 12, 1984 around 10:15am. The doctor said "It's a girl" and handed me the most beautiful, precious person in the world. I knew she was special but never truly realized how special a person she was. I am honored to have had her as a part of my life. Not many people had the special bond we had. She is still with me and will never leave my side.

ReplyDeleteOn Carrie's passing from this world to the next ...
ReplyDeleteCarrie left us quietly, as quietly she came,
For in her eyes was Jesus and she'll never be the same.
Her pain is gone, her fear, her grief, has all been left behind
And in its stead is blooming joy that fills her newborn mind.
We miss her, as on earth we do, when Jesus calls loved ones near,
But they live on within our hearts because we hold them dear.
Sweet Carrie, dear, you're ne'er forgot as on this day we cry...
We cannot understand it yet, but our dear Lord knows why.
God bless your family, all your friends, each one who misses you knows
That we are blessed beyond compare, knowing Jesus holds you close.
